HUNTER Westpac rescue helicopter crew members received new helmets with built-in communication system and night vision compatibility yesterday.

The ALPHA 200 Series helmets are made of advanced lightweight protective material and feature dual visor eye protection for all weather conditions, including fog and sandy conditions created by the helicopter's rotor when landing.

The safety equipment, valued at $3200 each, were provided through a ClubsNSW sponsorship.

Each donating club would have its name on a helmet in recognition of its support.

Helicopter board of directors chairman Cliff Marsh said the service was very grateful for the continuing support and the willingness of the clubs to assist.

Local clubs contribute about $200,000 every year to the Hunter Westpac rescue helicopter.
